The book presents the history of about 130 buildings, which date back to Menelik's time and, therefore, to the foundation of Addis Ababa. This allows reconstructing the early city's identity and socio-cultural climate, a task that is also facilitated by a rich photographic documentation of the buildings considered.

 Il libro presenta la storia di circa 130 antichi edifici costruiti all’epoca di Menelik. Attraverso queste dimore che risalgono ai   primi tempi dell’esitenza della città, si ricostruisce l’identità e il clima della prima Addis Abeba, anche attraverso una ricca  documentazione fotografica degli edifici presentati.
